Colour Scheme

Images and Editing

Image Plan Who is the image of? -The image on the front cover, contents page and double page spread is off the musician staring in the magazine, ‘Oliver Asher’. Oliver Asher is a musician similar to Liam Gallagher; he has just come back into the industry after his last tour which led to months of drug and alcohol abuse. On the cover and on the contents page snippets of his story will be given away, however the full story in on the double page spread. Where will you shoot? -The images I will take for the front cover and double page spread will be taken on a plain backdrop, the background will be neutral therefore it will be easier to edit out and give a clean edge of the image on the edited background. I will edit my images on fireworks to fit my colour scheme. -the image I will take for the contents page will be taken outside in a dark area. I have chosen to shoot this image outside to give the contents page a different aspect in comparison to the front cover and double page spread. I will edit these images if needed by changing the contrast etc. What is the message? -In the images I will take, the model will have eye contact with the camera; this means there will be eye contact with the reader which will represent a personal contact with the reader. Also the image will represent the musician in the image, the musician will have a fierce looking face this will represent the story behind the musician. The model in the shot will be wearing clothes with muted/neutral colours; this is so that the colours will fit in with any colour scheme. The colours also represent the genre of the magazine. What are they doing? -On the front cover Asher is looking directly into the camera, this creates eye contact with the audience and shows his stern look and emotion. This links in with his story and shows his deep emotion. No props will be used on the front cover image. -On the contents page the model will be standing against a wall or other prop. They wont be looking at the camera they will be looking away from the camera. -On the double page spread the model will be looking away from the camera again, I decided to do this so you can see the emotion in the image from reading the story on the double page spread. The angle that the model will be looking will also be towards the text on the page. Shot Planning -The front cover shot will be a head shot or a close up of the models face. However I will take various shots from a variety of angles if the first shot doesn’t look as good. I will leave blanks space in the shot for text and other images that will go on the front cover. -The contents page image will be a full body shot of the model. I feel that this will give a ‘chilled out’ connotation to the page and image whereas on the front cover it will be more serious looking. -For the double page spread the image will be a head shot from the shoulders up.

Language and Register

Language and register- Language and register is used when creating a media product to ensure it’s suitable for the genre and target market. The language used within a magazine is important as it sets the genre and the target market. For example, Vogue is aimed at high class women who are interested in fashion therefore the language and register will be formal and informative, a good level of English will be used and no slang. However, NME is aimed at middle class and the genre is rock music. Therefore the language and register will be informal with swearing and slang words used. My magazine is similar to NME so the language and register used will be informal/slang.

Representation

Representation The genre of my magazine is indie rock; therefore the audience of my magazine is going to be young people that have a liking or interest in indie rock music. The audience of my music magazine will be 14-25 year old that are interested in indie rock music. I will represent the genre and target audience using various aspects throughout my magazine. After researching similar types of magazines I noticed that the colour scheme represented the genre and target market of the magazine. I found that rock/metal magazines used bold colours such as red, blue and black. Genre is indie rock so I decided to go for muted colours. The colours that I chose represent my genre well. I have also represented the genre and target market with the language and register within the magazine. I researched different genres of magazines and found that different genres have suitable language for the target market. For example, in ‘Vogue’ the language was formal whereas in ‘NME’ the language was informal with slang aspects. For my magazine I will represent my genre through the language and register by using informal and slang language. The bands and musicians that are in my magazine also represent the genre and audience for my magazine. Bands and musicians that are also indie rock genres will be presented in my magazine. This will show the audience what kind of magazine it is and will make the magazine suitable for the target market.
